The New Mexico State University Dance Program will host its Fall Informal Dance Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 in the Rentfrow Hall Studio Theater.

The concert is free and open to NMSU faculty, staff and students, and will start with a pre-show performance at 6:30 p.m. featuring the program’s dancers and music from local artist, DJ Blanquo. The performance includes eight new pieces of choreography created by the NMSU Dance faculty and is serving as a glance of the program’s mainstage production happening in March.

“The showcase is unique for many reasons,” said Ryan McMullen, NMSU’s Dance Program director. “We have a wide range of students performing in this concert, some veterans of the program and many new students who are performing for the first time. The choreography of the concert highlights the artistic offerings and eclectic disciplines of our faculty. This concert serves as a reintroduction of the dance program to our community and for what is to come in the future.”

Members of NMSU’s Pride of New Mexico Marching Band, Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi Orgullo will also join the dancers for the performance. There will be a variety of dance styles such as hip-hop, contemporary, modern, cha-cha, tap, improvisation, salsa and flamenco. The NMSU Dance faculty will stay after the showcase to answer any questions from the audience and to provide an insight about the choreography process.
